NEXT STOP
a collaboration with Lance Olsen
2 channel audio and video installation, 1999 + 2001

Jamie Drouin and Lance Olsen's multimedia installation Next Stop centers upon an overheard conversation on a bus. This private moment is appropriated by Drouin/Olsen and transformed into a peculiar, yet deeply moving micro-play.

In the gallery space, the viewer encounters an impromptu theatre: a long narrow passageway ends with an almost absurdly small small video monitor. Through gesture alone, Olsen re-enacts two women on a bus engaged in a seemingly nonsensical and cyclic discussion. The back and forth of his speech is manic and unsettling, and the fact that it is a sole male figure playing the part of two elderly women adds to the confusion.
